Lessons from Ireland: Mentorship, Resilience, and Building for the Long Term

Entrepreneurship can be an intense and often isolating journey. That makes mentors (and the relationships built along the way) especially meaningful.

During a recent trip to Ireland, Hydrostasis Founder Dr. Debbie Chen had the opportunity to meet in person with longtime mentor Alan Clayton from SOSV HAX, who has supported the Hydrostasis journey since 2021.

The visit became much more than a reunion.Ireland's rich history offered a reminder that truly meaningful work is built to last. Visiting Christ Church Cathedral, founded in 1030, and seeing the Book of Kells, created over 1,200 years ago, inspired reflection on the value of building something that can create lasting impact.

The country's resilience, breathtaking landscapes (including the Cliffs of Moher) and welcoming people reinforced another important lesson: entrepreneurship is challenging, but relationships make the journey more rewarding.

When you realize you have friends, mentors, and supporters around the world, the startup journey becomes a little less lonely... and a lot more meaningful.

Go raibh maith agat, Ireland.
